Show me the path where I should walk, O Lord

To you, O Lord, I lift up my soul. I trust in You, my God! Show me the path where I should walk, O Lord Point out the right road for me to follow. Lead me by your truth and teach me for You are the God who saves me. All day long I put my hope in You. Remember O Lord your unfailing love and compassion which you have shown from long ages past. Forgive the rebellious sins of my youth…

fall is already over? and a construction project

What happened? Now I know it’s somewhat warm (40-50 degrees right now) and we’re still going to go outside like we’ve been doing, but geez. I’m not ready for the winter. Ah well; it doesn’t work that way, does it?

We barely took many pictures this fall, but if you click on the picture below you’ll see a slideshow (does anyone know how to embed a Picasa album slideshow in WordPress?) of only a bit of what we’ve been up to this fall. Read the rest of this entry »

Thanksgiving

I never had heard the origin of Thanksgiving until my good friend Tim posted it – A Proclamation – which is quite a lengthy proclamation (at least for me … even though it is worth reading); so I’ll just snippet this:

They are the gracious gifts of the Most High God, who, while dealing with us in anger for our sins, hath nevertheless remembered mercy. It has seemed to me fit and proper that they should be solemnly, reverently and gratefully acknowledged as with one heart and one voice by the whole American People. I do therefore invite my fellow citizens in every part of the United States, and also those who are at sea and those who are sojourning in foreign lands, to set apart and observe the last Thursday of November next, as a day of Thanksgiving and Praise to our beneficent Father who dwelleth in the Heavens.

You know I really don’t hear anyone really talk about the origin of this holiday much – actually I don’t recall ever hearing its origin really. Have you?

Thanksgiving

beautiful weather and family in townWe had a great Thanksgiving weekend. Weather was for the most part fabulous (see pic#1), but did get cold towards Sunday… A handful of my wife’s family were in town for much of it, and it was a great time for all of us with laughs and good times abound. The kids REALLY enjoyed the extra family (see pic#2). My oldest had not one but two teeth came out (they have been loose for weeks) – one Thursday night and the other Friday night. There wasmy family-happy kids and is MUCH to be thankful for: my kids and my wife, my family and my wife’s family (rare seems to be the occasion when someone loves their spouse’s family as much as their own), and the saving grace of my Lord.

As I thought through what I am thankful for and the blessings of family and love in our lives, I was provided quite the shaking. A particular person in my family who has been for many years struggling (who doesn’t live anywhere near us either) called [several times] over the weekend. They are going through some really tough times, but just don’t seem willing to hear anything about how to improve their situation. The hole is deep, but seems like this person can only go deeper without seeing any way out. You can’t help (and I’ve tried) – the only thing we can do is be there on the phone with this person. It is expected that they won’t have a place to live (will be losing their housing) within the month (unless something changes which isn’t likely), and probably will have to go into a temporary program. Much more could be said, but I really don’t know how. Only God – only prayer…
